 PHOTOSHOOT AND SHOOTING FOR THE FIRST - HALF

( Our production team - ME, MEGAN AND NUB )

This was the day that me and my production team start our photoshoot and the first half of the music video. We use two cameras, Canon EOS 16 for photo shooting and Sony A6000 for filming. The photoshoot take place in my school's Media Room, which is Vinschool Central Park. There is an area with a greenscreen where we can take the photos, in which it's wide enough for the dancer and me to post whatever suit us the best. 

★ THE PROCESS

• THE PHOTOSHOOT : 

The space is big enough and the greenscreen have the similar height as our height, therefore the final product from the photoshoot were quite smooth

For the photoshoot, Canon EOS 16 was chosen since we believe that Canon EOS 16 had a really good raw quality of photos, in which it has the high dynamic range quality for photos. However, it runs out of battery while shooting, we have to switch to the Sony A6000. This Sony camera was an old camera, according to the D.O.P guy, yet the quality of the photo still maintain the high resolution, no blurry details. We use Artisan Prime Lens - 50mm f/1.8, which captured the light perfectly and have a great focus on the main subject.

Most of our lighting were adjust in the left corner, since we mostly set our face corner on the left. We could see most of the light were appeal on the face, which make it more vibrant. For the dancer, we mainly use white light, in which the main color that we have already aimed for him. Our references for the photoshoot using white as the major scheme, plus some shimmering effects with a bit manipulation of the glitter. In order to achieve that to create more significant highlights, it can be a possible way to apply glitter through Photoshop and that's what we gonna do.

Most of the lights focuses on the model, glows and glitters are the main highlight.

• THE SHOOTING OF THE FIRST HALF : 

For the filming session, we filming the intro and the first verse of the song. We choose one corner of the room that consists a bunch of desks and chair, which act pretty much like a classroom. The place at that time were quite messy and shabby, therefore it reflected the mood of the music video. We turn off the light in order to create a low light effect and also try to emphasize to make it more evening like atmosphere. We try our best to emphasize the face with a bit of light and capture enough light to make the scene visible. 

The light were used as the main highlight for the face, since we want it to be lowkey hiding due to the privacy of the character, but also shows a bit of the face so that it can be a bit visible. 

The next part of the shooting is the first verse, which include the scene of an anonymous hand just casually put its hand on my shoulder and from that it generates a bruise. We use a close up for the shot just to give the hand an attention of how hard pressure can affect a person. The process going quite smoothly and quite quickly, since we film in the same place and the action needed were not much. However, it did take a bit of time due to the change of angle and camera direction, yet it's not a big deal for us.

intro part, yet it can be a great scene by some manipulation in the editing

[ Editing intention : We decided to manipulate the scene a bit by enlarge the frame , 

change the focus of the hand and increase the brightness and contrast so that the hand  will be more visible )

We finishes all of these shots 30 minutes early before we have to leave school according to the time that we have asked for permission. We continue to shoot some more for the first verse of the second half and some running and gliding shots for the bridge. It was take at the greenscreen place and we need 3 light boxes for the lighting. The first verse of the second half will consists of me waking up in a strange place with nothing except a vast, black atmosphere. Everything was off and disconnected, even the static of my phone also disappear. Medium shot were used as it record me from the head to the stomach, tracking shot also included to track my movement. Some running scene will be used for the bridge, which will be manipulated by editing. Specifically, step-printing will be applied, in which similar to a scene in Chungking Express by Wong Kar Wai. 

 

 

The process for this going smoothly, however, this is the process were a bunch of bloopers were produce due to the fact that we have to try to our best to increase the brightness of light but also not too bright to keep a constant vibe throughout the MV. Also, acting is also a problem since it's quite hard for me to express some expression naturally, such as confusion, afraid, panic and more. The outcomes satisfied me in terms of pictures quality and the camera angles and shots, nevertheless, the lighting was a bit off and dark, which we will try our best to adjust it in our post - production period.
